With the effects of climate change (hotter weathers and more natural disasters), many people are concerned that it will make food production more difficult in Brunei Darussalam. With hotter weather, plant’s have a harder time to grow. Such weather also leads to irregular fruit seasons.
However, there are many Bruneians who have taken this challenge head on!
One such example is a project by Muhammad Nur Firdaus bin Naik/Kahan, a Mechanical Engineering student. While in UTB, Muhammad Nur Firdaus showcased an innovative project on Vertical Rice Farming (VRF).
Vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers. The advantage of this is that consumes way less space. It also uses controlled environments similar to hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics.
Muhammad Nur Firdaus showcased his project in a charitable recreation event organised in conjunction with the 30th Civil Service Day, held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in Bandar Seri Begawan on May 19, 2024.
Through this project, Muhammad Nur Firdaus and UTB showcased its commitment to innovation and sustainable practices. By presenting the Vertical Rice Farming project, UTB demonstrated its strong innovative knowledge in pioneering agricultural technologies, contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals.
Even though climate change might be scary, let’s get excited for all the new cool technologies we will be seeing soon!
